Our intellectual and cultural leadership empowers our members, educators, students and communities to be more informed and engaged. We do this through three interconnected program areas: Dialogue and Diplomacy, which includes our celebrated Under Fire series, Cultural Exchange with international visitors, and inspiring Student Engagement.

POSITION SUMMARY

Global Santa Fe is at an exciting juncture with the recent launch of our new name, brand identity and website, representing years of organizational transformation. The Development and Membership Associate Director will draw on this momentum to leverage Global Santa Fe’s new brand to bring Global Santa Fe into its next stage of growth and impact locally, nationally, and globally.

The successful candidate for Global Santa Fe’s Associate Director of Development and Membership will oversee all development activities and report to Global Santa Fe’s Executive Director (ED). The Associate Director of Development and Membership will contribute to the planning and implementation of strategic and membership marketing while leading development initiatives to support the mission and vision of Global Santa Fe by expanding awareness, engaging the public, attracting new audiences, developing marketing, generating leads and increasing revenue for the organization.

The Associate Director of Development and Membership will work collaboratively with the ED and Global Santa Fe staff to provide leadership, support and coordination for Global Santa Fe’s fundraising and membership programs, including stewardship of individual donors, and corporate and foundation partners. The successful candidate will also manage planning and execution of annual giving activities and fundraising events, membership solicitations, renewals and campaigns, grant applications and reporting; and provide timely and accurate tracking of progress against development and membership goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee research, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual and institutional members and donors
  • Identify appropriate strategies to grow and maintain Global Santa Fe membership and donor base
  • Identify grant opportunities, and oversee the timely completion of relevant grant applications and grant reports
  • Maintain close relationships with New Mexico funders to best position Global Santa Fe for local/regional grants
  • Lead business partnership efforts for Global Santa Fe at the local, state, and national levels
  • Help plan, stage, and support the ED’s, Board’s, and Development Committee’s activities relating to leadership and major gifts
  • Organize and execute fundraising strategies, messaging, and systems for Global Santa Fe fundraising events, including an annual Gala
  • Move forward with a Planned Giving Campaign for Global Santa Fe
  • Take the lead role with Global Santa Fe’s relational database and integrated third-party applications, performing regular tasks to include: basic system administration and data management; database training and user support; gift data entry and acknowledgment; report generation and dissemination; automated and mass email communications; and campaign and event buildout and administration
  • Contribute to annual budget planning and financial audits/review processes
  • Remain informed on world-affairs issues, stay abreast of trends in nonprofit management and philanthropy, and attend relevant training
  • Make strong contributions to Global Santa Fe’s teamwork in areas specified by Global Santa Fe’s ED and Board of Directors

1) STRATEGIC PLANNING AND TRACKING

  • Work with ED to implement and track tactical plans to support the success of Global Santa Fe’s annual fundraising efforts, which include membership acquisition and retention, donor stewardship, grants management, foundation, and corporate partner relations
  • Maintain detailed, timely records of fundraising activity of staff and key volunteers
  • Maintain donor, sponsor, and member data, with utmost attention to accuracy and confidentiality

2) DONOR CULTIVATION AND STEWARDSHIP

  • Prepare and execute direct fundraising campaigns for Global Santa Fe, including the creation of solicitation materials, donor list management, gift tracking, and acknowledgment, and analysis of campaign performance
  • Prepare materials for prospective donor and funder meetings and coordinate follow-up
  • Develop a stewardship plan for individual donors, including a monthly list of stewardship calls for the Executive Director and key volunteers
  • Update acknowledgment and thank you letter templates annually, or as needed

3) PARTNERSHIPS AND MEMBERSHIP

  • Work with ED to implement an annual plan for the acquisition and renewal of Global Santa Fe’s members
  • Help develop and implement new membership engagement programs
  • Help identify and cultivate new members and retain current members
  • Develop creative and engaging membership marketing materials
  • Responsible for all aspects of member record maintenance
  • Conduct research to identify and qualify prospective corporate and foundation funders
  • Draft sponsorship proposals, implementation, and reporting
  • Create invoices, track payments, follow up to collect as necessary, and provide timely receipts
  • Track and analyze campaign progress and use a variety of methods (email, phone, mail) to contact prospective, current, and lapsed members
  • Maintain accurate membership details in Salesforce
  • Maintain and update member-only newsletter recipient list
  • Follow up with lapsed donors

4) EVENTS

  • Provide key fundraising support for all Global Santa Fe events, working closely with the Program Officer for Events
  • Support sponsor fulfillment, targeted invitations, table sales, seating maps, gift processing and acknowledgment, and other duties as needed
  • Design and implement strategic and creative touchpoints with donors, members, and other participants to deepen our supporters’ engagement with Global Santa Fe programs and mission
  • Manage donor and sponsor recognition in event marketing materials, invitations, and other program elements

5) COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

  • Handle marketing activities and some website tasks, including updates and creation of marketing materials regularly
  • Develop content for newsletters, social media, and other communications to steward Global Santa Fe donors and members, in consultation with ED
  • Grow circulation of the newsletter
  • Create and send a quarterly member-only newsletter, in consultation with ED
  • Review and update website content, including outreach to the membership for content feedback

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have 3 years of experience, preferably in a nonprofit or association management and professional office setting
  • Highly detail-oriented; strong project management, administrative, and organizational skills
  • Must demonstrate initiative, ability to work independently, excellent judgment, efficient execution, resourcefulness, and adaptability to change
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Independent, motivated self-starter who collaborates well with colleagues
  • A passion for world affairs, globalization, social justice, and human rights

1) DONOR CULTIVATION, STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS, AND MEMBERSHIPS

  • Experience in networking and building strategic alliances
  • Strong and demonstrated success as a fundraiser with individuals, foundations, corporations, and governmental entities
  • A track record of growing membership
  • Experience with Planned Giving strategies and approaches
  • Cross-cultural experiences and competencies
  • Sensitivity and finesse in cultivating and stewarding relationships

2) COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

  • Experience with tracking and presenting metrics and analytics
  • Graphic design experience a plus; proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite desired
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of products
  • Proficiency with SalesForce desired and event platforms where necessary (Mailchimp, Eventbrite, etc…)

BENEFITS

Benefits and compensation are competitive with Development and Membership Associate Directors of similar-sized nonprofit organizations in the region. Salary range: $50-$60,000. There may be additional incentives provided to recognize and reward strong work. The successful candidate is entitled to 10 days of leave, 5 personal days, and 5 sick days. Global Santa Fe is also closed for all federal holidays, the Friday following Thanksgiving, and for the week between December 26 and January 1, inclusive. The Development and Membership Associate Director is also entitled to a health stipend.
