Tacarra Lake teaches human geography at Los Alamos High School. Born and raised in rural New Mexico, she developed a passion for global affairs as a teenager, exchanging letters with a pen friend in Serbia. On her first trip abroad, the first place she visited was Sarajevo. Tacarra went on to study post-conflict development in the Balkans for two years, eventually earning a BA in International Studies from the University of New Mexico (UNM).

It was in Bosnia-Herzegovina that Tacarra discovered her love for teaching while volunteering as an English tutor in local high schools. She later earned an MA in International Affairs from Missouri State University, focusing her research on education in post-conflict communities. Additionally, she spent a summer teaching Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

Ultimately, Tacarra decided to teach high school in her home state, hoping to bring the world into her classroom and inspire the next generation of New Mexicans to learn about the world beyond the Land of Enchantment.
